b) Web Analytics with Matomo (self-hosted, cookieless)
We use the open-source analytics software Matomo for website
analytics.
Matomo is hosted on our own server in the European Union and is operated
without the use of cookies.
We have configured Matomo for IP anonymization and do not
store any data that could directly identify you as an individual.
No personal profiles are created.
No tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party tracking tools are
used.
You can prevent analytics processing at any time by enabling the "Do Not
Track" setting in your browser.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in analyzing and improving our offering).
In addition to general page usage statistics, we also use Matomo to track anonymous gameplay data in GeoLineup. Specifically, we record:
- Selected game level (e.g., easy, medium, hard)
- The set of cities shown in each round (as anonymized IDs)
- The latitude distance between cities (for game balancing purposes)
- If a game was canceled or aborted (without personal data)
c) Feedback Survey (Nextcloud Forms)
We offer an optional user feedback survey to help us improve
the project.
This survey is conducted via Nextcloud Forms on our own
Nextcloud instance, which is securely hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany (EU).
Participation in the survey is voluntary. No personal data is required unless
you choose to provide it (e.g., in free text or an email address field).
All survey responses are transmitted in encrypted form and stored
exclusively on our Hetzner-hosted server within the European Union.
The data is not shared with third parties and is processed
in accordance with the GDPR.
For more information, please refer to the privacy policy of Hetzner Online:
